This is expected. Your Analytics dashboard and your billing figures count different things.
- Analytics counts searches, which are aggregated to reflect user intent. A user typing "iphone" sends the queries "i", "ip", "iph", … "iphone"; Analytics groups those into a single search. Aggregation is based on edit distance, a 30-second window, and user ID — see Query aggregation and processing.
- Billing counts every individual search request sent, with no aggregation.
So the billed figure will normally be larger, and on a search-as-you-type implementation it is often several times larger.
Two further differences to be aware of:
- Requests sent with
analyticsset tofalseare excluded from Analytics but are still billed. - Analytics reports per index. The Usage page aggregates across all indices in the application, including multi-query traffic that cannot be attributed to a single index.
Your billed figures are in API Monitoring > Usage.
