Our global search infrastructure is world leading and so you can be assured that we have the capacity to handle very high levels of traffic. If you are at a scale where you are expecting high levels of traffic, the first step to ensure that you are set up for success is to make sure that you have already purchased the appropriate Support, Professional Services and Success Offerings to provide you with the support you need to manage your overall implementation of Algolia.
Through this you can also get access to one of our SLAs to match the level of stability you require.
Often, load tests do not reflect real-world usage patterns. In real life, traffic usually ramps up progressively, allowing the service to scale accordingly. In a load test, however, a very high number of requests are sent in a short burst, which is not representative of actual scalability behavior. An effective load test should accurately model the traffic patterns of the real event you are expecting.
For all these reasons, our standard recommendation is that load testing is often not necessary, and should not ever be performed if you are on shared infrastructure. However, if you are on dedicated infrastructure you can reach out to us if you have an event where you are expecting a significant increase in traffic for extra peace of mind that the infrastructure supporting your application is able to support the increase you expect effectively.
Please also note that load testing is treated like all other usage, and so will be billed based on your usage, you should use the event preparation process to inform us two weeks in advance, and service degradation as a result of a load test that exceeds the limits in your plan is not eligible for our SLA which will also likely trigger our rate limiting.
